The last time I played Sonic XG (I was a beta tester a couple years ago), it was shaping up pretty nicely. Parts of it were still a little rough around the edges, but it was quite enjoyable. My understanding was, I was consulted because it was considered almost done (and, indeed, what I remember playing was almost a complete game), but I’m pretty sure the input I gave caused the game to be delayed.:p That being said, the input I had was mostly simple bug fix stuff as I recall, so it’s more likely that life got in the way, as it has a habit of doing. But, yeah, I liked it. It has a unique visual style all its own. Though it’s fallen from the spotlight a bit, it would still be a pretty big deal if it came out.

I’ve actually thought a couple times now that if I wasn’t always so tied up with my own stuff, I should’ve helped out. Same goes for when Hez pinged me for help on Sonic Classic 2 a while ago.

I hope Sonic XG sees release one day. Sure, I guess. My problem is that Taxman’s only been an okay level designer.

He’s gotten better over the years, mind you, but that last build of was still kind of level design for the sake of level design. Egg Garden has no theming, it’s just “here’s a bunch of stuff from other Sonic games, primarily Mushroom Hill!” But it’s not conveying an identity. That’s kind of what was wrong with the new Hidden Palace, too. Main Ghar Se Nikal Aaya Mp3. You have a couple of leftover dinosaur badniks, a bat, and a jellyfish.

Water, a couple of breakable gem blocks, and this weird spiked pendulum thing. Why is that pendulum there?

How does it fit with the theme of the level? If the theme of the level is traps, why aren’t there more? If the theme of the level is dinoaurs, why isn’t that stronger?

What do either of those things have to do with a palace that is hidden? Look at Aquatic Ruin.

Aquatic Ruin should be Hidden Palace. You have ancient tiki traps, enemies busting out of crumbling walls, and a dense, wet jungle full of deadly piranhas and buzzing flies. It’s Sonic’s version of Indiana Jones. Hidden Palace needed to play up the “lost world” aspect more (in the ). Retro Sonic was only part way there. That’s why it was so incredible when it merged with Sonic XG; because Euan and Nitemare were better level designers. And the three could play off each other, and make a better product than Retro Sonic or Sonic XG could be on their own.
